Hastings Congress canceled

The 96th Hastings Chess Congress is one of many tournaments after christmas that are canceled due to another wave of Covid-19 infections. Hardly any of the reports on the London Chess Classic, where masks were not mandatory earlier this month, mentioned that several players and commentators got infected and Nigel Short had to be hospitalized.
