Singapore hosts Ding-Gukesh – 01 Jul 2024
FIDE has awarded the classical World Championship to Singapore, where the government is the main sponsor. The two other bids came from India, which had caused a political stir between the camps of Indian Prime Minister Modi and the All India Chess Federation that supported Delhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin behind the Indian chess capital Chennai.

Niemann match tour in August – 01 Jul 2024
The American GM Hans Niemann announced a series of matches with Giri in Utrecht, Vitiugov in London, Bacrot in Paris and Nihal Sarin in Sharjah throughout August. Each match to consist of 6 classical, 6 rapid and 12 blitz games. The announcement includes a call for sponsors.

Russia decision appealed – 30 Jun 2024
Both parties have appealed against the decision of the FIDE Ethics Commission to ban the Russian Chess Federation for having war criminals on its supervisory board and to reprimand President Arkady Dvorkovich for being on that board and not having intervened. The Chess Federation of Russia is also demanding to dissolve the Ethics Commission, revise its codex and readmit Russia, Belarus and their national symbols in FIDE events.

London hosts Global Chess League – 27 Jun 2024
Tech Mahindra has announced a second season of its Global Chess League on 3–12 October in London, securing a live audience and interaction with fans for the high powered rapid team event, which will be followed by the WR Chess Masters Cup on 14–18 October held by German sponsor Wadim Rosenstein in a k.o.-format, also in London.

Austria prepares bid for R&B 2025 – 26 Jun 2024
After being reelected as President of the Austrian Chess Federation for two more years, Michael Stöttinger told ChessTech that FIDE’s announcement of the Rapid & Blitz World Championship 2024 in New York helps him to secure funding and support to bid for the 2025 event in Austria, where it may be held in Linz, Salzburg or Vienna.

Schachbundesliga final rounds in Deggendorf – 26 Jun 2024
Going into its strongest season ever with virtually all world-class players committed to a club, the German Bundesliga will hold its final three rounds on 25–27 April 2025 near Munich in Deggendorf, where the local club will celebrate its 100th anniversary. On 22/23 March 2025 eight out of 16 teams will meet at the FC St Pauli football stadion in Hamburg and most likely Magnus Carlsen, who is connected with St Pauli and the Weissenhaus Chess Academy, will be among them.

Congress schedule published – 26 Jun 2024
FIDE has published the dates of commission and continental meetings during its congress in Budapest on 17 to 22 September with the last two days reserved for the General Assembly. The Chess Olympiad is played on 11 to 22 September. On the only free day, 17 September, Judit Polgár and her team invite to the Global Chess Festival at the National Gallery.
